"Making in Institutions, Institutions in the Making"

Daniel Wessolek

Description: Making in museums and libraries yields potential for the empowerment of people by a) democratizing access and b) by focusing on real-world solving of marginalized problems. Digital fabrication can help to prototype inventions. Fostering co-design processes and encouraging sharing of knowledge is as least as important as providing physical hardware tools. Active learning in the context of digital fabrication machinery is best supported by inspirational sparks and use-cases. It is essential for a functioning institutional makerspace, that research and development are an integral part of the daily practice in order to inspire visitors and foster the interest in skill learning and application thereof.
